Witcher 3 Remastered Hits Switch 2, But Not Without a Hitch

SwitchUp put the Switch 2 version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt through its paces, and while the visuals hold up, the channel flags a real snag in performance.

The Witcher 3 has now been re-released on more hardware than most people have owned consoles, and the newest stop is Switch 2. According to a breakdown from SwitchUp, the remaster brings noticeably sharper visuals, new lighting and effects, and an updated map and UI to Nintendo's handheld, plus a photo mode for anyone who wants to pose Geralt next to a fire.

That's the part CD Projekt wants on the box. "Definitive experience on a Nintendo handheld" is the pitch, and translated into plain terms it means: does it look good and does it run without falling apart in your hands. SwitchUp says the overall image holds up well across side-by-side comparisons, which is the good news for anyone who's watched this game get ported to everything short of a calculator.

The catch, per the channel, is buried in a chapter called "a spanner in the visuals and performance works," alongside separate notes on framerates and loading times running long. SwitchUp didn't hand over exact numbers in the description, but the framing alone tells you there's friction somewhere between how the game looks and how it actually plays. The channel also covers gyro aiming, gesture controls, and where the game lands on price and value for anyone deciding if a fourth or fifth purchase of the same RPG is worth it.

A handheld port that looks sharp but stumbles on performance isn't new for this game, it's basically tradition at this point. Nice effects don't mean much if the frame rate can't keep up when Geralt's fighting three drowners at once. Until CD Projekt or Nintendo says more, treat "definitive" as a claim still on probation.
