BeamNG.drive's Soft-Body Car Chaos Is Heading to PS5
The Steam sandbox that lets you fold a sedan like tin foil is reportedly landing on PlayStation 5 within two weeks, while the games actually marketed as 2026's big racers keep stalling.

BeamNG.drive has spent years being the racing game nobody on console talks about and everybody on Steam quietly can't stop playing. According to Polygon, it's now set to land on PS5 within two weeks, which is a strange thing to type about a game whose biggest selling point is crashing cars into things as realistically as possible.
Here's what that soft-body physics stuff actually means for someone holding a controller: the car doesn't just play a damage animation when you hit a wall. The metal folds, the frame bends, the door might not close right anymore, and none of it was scripted ahead of time. It's less a racing game and more a demolition derby built by people who clearly love cars enough to want to watch them get ruined correctly. That's apparently been enough to make it a massive hit on Steam without most console owners ever hearing the name.
Compare that to what's actually been promoted as this year's big PlayStation racing release. Forza Horizon 6 is still sitting on a vague promised 2026 window from Playground Games, and as Polygon points out, the studio is leaving it awfully late to nail down an actual date for a game supposedly arriving this year. Star Wars: Galactic Racer gets called genuinely brilliant in that same piece, but even its fans aren't pretending it's going to be the system seller of the year.
So the honest answer to which racing game dominates PS5 in 2026 might just be the sandbox car-crusher that built its reputation without a single trailer at a big stage show. There's something satisfying about that, and something a little embarrassing for the studios still burning marketing budget on games that can't commit to a release window a Steam physics sandbox apparently didn't need.
None of this means BeamNG.drive will feel right with a controller instead of a wheel and keyboard, and nobody's confirmed pricing or exactly which day it drops. Two weeks is close enough that we'll know soon without anyone having to take a studio's word for it. Mark the date and see if it loads.
