Digital Foundry: Star Wars Racer Runs Smooth Everywhere
Digital Foundry put Star Wars: Galactic Racer through its paces on every current console, and for once the Series S isn't the version getting quietly apologized for.
Digital Foundry tested Star Wars: Galactic Racer across PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X and Series S, and the headline isn't a scandal, it's a game that actually runs the way it's supposed to on all four. Developer Fuse Games built it on Unreal Engine 5, which these days usually means someone's about to apologize for a frame rate. Not here.
"Arcade racing isn't dead" is the kind of line a marketing deck loves to print. What it actually means for someone holding a controller: no open world to grind through, no map screen full of icons, just tight tracks and a game that gets out of its own way. Digital Foundry's framing backs that up, and the outlet calls out the Series S build specifically as worth a look, which is rare enough that it's the headline on its own.
The messier detail is PS5 Pro. Digital Foundry initially read its upscaling as Sony's PSSR, then walked that back, saying on closer inspection it's unclear whether the Pro version is running PSSR or the more generic TSR instead. That's a real correction from a channel that spends its whole existence staring at pixel counts for a living, and it's worth remembering the next time a Pro comparison gets posted with total confidence.
None of this requires anyone to pick a side. A racing game that performs well across the board and a reviewer willing to say "actually, scratch that" about its own analysis are both rarer than they should be, and both are worth more than another cinematic trailer promising a world that doesn't exist yet.
