There is a particular cruelty to a subscription library, one that the format's defenders rarely mention: it lends you the good stuff only long enough for you to fall for it, then takes it back before you have finished saying so. Come October 20, PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers lose seven games from the Game Catalog, and the two that matter are not the sort of filler a service quietly drops without anyone noticing.

The list, as it stands: Silent Hill 2, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Gloomhaven: Mercenaries Edition, Jurassic World Evolution 2, Rogue Lords, Lake, and Death Squared.

The two departures that actually sting

Bloober Team's Silent Hill 2 remake is the headline casualty here, and it is leaving with almost insulting timing, right as the season it was built for begins. The original was already a landmark of psychological horror; the 2024 remake did the rare thing of expanding on a classic rather than merely repainting it, sharpening the combat, sharpening the enemies that meet it, and widening the town itself with new corners to get lost in. It arrived, by any honest account, as one of the better arguments the genre has made for itself in years, and it did so while a whole Silent Hill revival built up around it, with Silent Hill: Townfall due September 24 and a remake of the first game reportedly still in the works at Bloober.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon is the other real loss. Swapping brawling for turn-based combat and handing the wheel to a new protagonist in Ichiban Kasuga was the kind of gamble a franchise makes when it trusts its own foundation, and it paid off in a game that is as generous with heart as it is with nonsense. The grind in its later stretches is real, but so is the affection the series has earned since, through Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth and everything that followed it.

What stays, and what shows up instead

Sony is not leaving the shelf bare while it clears these titles out. Runescape: Dragonwilds and WWE 2K26 join the Game Catalog today, with Ball X Pit, Slitterhead, and Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound scheduled to arrive over the following weeks. All subscribers, regardless of tier, can also currently claim Sniper Elite: Resistance, MLB The Show 26, Chained Echoes, and Wobbly Life as monthly freebies.

No exact removal date beyond October 20 has been given, which leaves a narrow but real window: long enough to finish a game you have been meaning to start, not long enough to pretend the deadline is not there. Reported on by GameSpot and echoed by the channel Playstation World, the list appears settled; what is worth noting is how rarely a subscription catalog thins out something worth actually mourning.

A library, unlike a roadmap, can at least be finished before it disappears. Whether you finish this one in time is now entirely your problem.
