Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance Trailer Brings Back Teostra
Capcom's Tokyo Game Show trailer for the Monster Hunter Wilds expansion drags an old, explosive nightmare back into the hunt. Cute. Let's see if the new gear actually helps.
Capcom used Tokyo Game Show to drop an extended trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, and the headline news is simple: Teostra is back. The elder dragon that's been setting hunters on fire since forever shows up as one of the huntable monsters in the expansion, according to the trailer posted by Capcom USA.
Strip away the trailer language and here's what it actually means for someone with a controller: more Master Rank content, some reworked hunting moves, a new area to run around in, and a familiar monster with a habit of turning the arena into a bonfire. Capcom's own rundown calls it the next chapter for the Expedition Team, which is a fancy way of saying more story missions and more gear to grind for.
The expansion needs the base Monster Hunter Wilds game to run, so this isn't a spinoff you can jump into cold. It's arriving in 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2, meaning nobody gets left out this time, at least on paper.
Eurogamer's read on the reveal is that Teostra's return signals Capcom listening to complaints about difficulty in Wilds. Maybe. Nothing in what Capcom actually showed spells out a difficulty overhaul, just a returning monster and some vague talk of "evolved hunting actions." That phrase could mean a genuine rework or it could mean three new combo strings nobody asked for.
A trailer with fire effects isn't a patch note. Show the actual fight, show the numbers, and then we can talk about whether Wilds got harder in the ways people wanted or just louder.
