PlayStation Built Real Wolverine Claws While The Game Struggles

Sony hired actual blacksmiths to forge Wolverine's claws for real, and they shred vegetables just fine. The game they're promoting is having a rougher time.

PlayStation Built Real Wolverine Claws While The Game Struggles

PlayStation just turned Wolverine's claws from a comic book fantasy into an actual object you could hurt yourself with, and I have to give the marketing department its flowers for that one.

Credit where it's due first, though: Xbox's pad remains the comfiest thing in gaming, and I'll say that once and move on. This week isn't about controllers. It's about PlayStation commissioning Fiedlero Knives to forge a working set of Wolverine's blades, mounted on a handle so they look like they're erupting straight out of your knuckles, the same trick Hugh Jackman's practical props used on screen. PlayStation showed the claws slicing through fresh produce with zero drama, which is more than I can say for the game they're celebrating.

As GameSpot reported, Marvel's Wolverine has had a rocky launch month, with Tamoor Hussain's review calling it, at best, forgettable, and at worst proof that Insomniac's superhero formula doesn't transfer to just any mutant. A new patch has already gone in to calm down the game's infamous scent-trail hand-holding, which this site covered when PlayStation quietly fixed Wolverine's fart gas trails.

So what's Xbox got cooking to answer a real set of forged adamantium-style claws? Nothing.

A blade this good deserves a game that doesn't need a patch to stop farting on your collectibles, and until Insomniac squares that away, the claws are the best thing carrying this launch. That's still a win worth banking.
