Riot's Own Designer Admits Renata Glasc Is Broken
League of Legends lead gameplay designer August finally said what solo queue has been muttering for years: Renata Glasc needs a rework. An admission is not a patch note.

We have been told for a while that Renata Glasc was fine, just misunderstood, a champion that rewarded the right team around her. According to Insider Gaming, Riot's lead gameplay designer August has now said the quiet part out loud: Renata needs a mid-scope update because she is simply too awkward to play in solo queue.
That word, awkward, is doing a lot of quiet work. It is the kind of understatement a designer reaches for when the honest version, unplayable outside a coordinated five-stack, would sound like an admission of a bad launch that never got fixed. Renata has spent her time in League as a champion whose entire kit assumes a level of teammate cooperation that solo queue simply does not offer, and every season she stayed untouched was a season the complaint got a little more justified.
I want to grade Riot generously here, because saying a champion needs work is at least honest, and honest is more than we get from most live-service teams admitting a design mistake. But I have caught myself doing this before, handing out credit for a company describing the problem instead of solving it, and I am not doing it again for free. Admitting Renata is broken is not the same as shipping the fix, and August's comment, as reported by Insider Gaming, comes with no rework date, no scope, no patch number attached to it.
So the ledger stays open. A champion that has been effectively unplayable in ranked for however long counts as dead weight in the client, a slot on the select screen that exists mostly as a trap for new players who read her kit and think it looks fun. Every patch cycle that passes without the promised mid-scope update is another entry in that column, and Riot does not get to close the book just by naming the page.
What would actually earn back the benefit of the doubt is simple: a public timeline, even a rough one, and a rework that survives first contact with solo queue instead of getting hotfixed into a worse state a week later. Until one of those two things shows up, this is a designer correctly diagnosing a patient who has been sick for a long time, with no prescription attached.
