GTA Online's Halloween Update Returns With Big Money Bonuses
Rockstar has wheeled out another seasonal haunting for GTA Online, and the rewards attached to it are large enough to make the fog machine worth switching on.
Rockstar has reopened the seasonal crypt once more, and anyone who has logged into GTA Online across the better part of the last decade will recognize the choreography on sight: the same fog, the same Phantom Car idling somewhere in the hills, the same Cerberus waiting to ruin somebody's evening. According to the channel Hazard, this week's event brings back Slashers, the Phantom Car, Cerberus Surprise, Possessed Animals, Ghosts Exposed, Jack O'Lanterns and Peyote Plants, alongside the returning masks, face paints and other seasonal cosmetics that make the whole affair feel less like new content than a well-loved costume pulled from storage.
What the costume comes with this time is money, and a fair amount of it. Hazard's rundown lists a free Cheerleader Massacre 3 T-shirt, a GTA$500,000 payout for completing five Security Contracts, and a GTA$2,000,000 reward for clearing every Weekly Challenge before November 4, which is the sort of number Rockstar reserves for players willing to treat a to-do list as a part-time job. Triple GTA$ and RP apply across Halloween modes, Survivals, Hotring and Random Transform Races, while Bail Office Targets, Dispatch Work, UFO Business Battles and Jack O'Lanterns themselves pay double, with Ghosts Exposed offering another doubled payout on top of that pile.
The update also drags along the usual weekly furniture: Agencies at 40% off, discounted dealerships and Gun Vans, a refreshed Salvage Yard Robbery rotation, and the Cinquemila sitting on the Lucky Wheel for anyone who would rather gamble than grind, with the Dominator GTT available through its Prize Ride Challenge as the more reliable alternative. The Kortz Center heist, still very much in rotation, cycles Chat on Fruit, Juiced and The Downfall of Rome through as its current Primary Targets, and the familiar trio of Premium Race, Time Trial and FIB Priority File round out the week, exactly as they have most weeks since the feature existed.
There is something almost touching about an eleven-year-old open world still being dressed up for Halloween with this much care, the sort of attentive curation one associates with a catalog that treats its back catalog as a living thing rather than a line item to be sunset the moment the quarterly numbers wobble. Whether that attention extends to the next proper piece of new ground for this world, rather than another coat of seasonal paint on the same haunted house, is the question Rockstar keeps deferring, and the one players keep paying the toll to ask again.
