Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Launches Today on Switch 2

The tactics saga trades its overview trailer for a launch one, and Dagsion is finally open for business. Four Heroes, one city, and a war you can lose permanently.

Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is out today, and Nintendo of America marked the moment with a launch trailer that trades hype for proof: the Heroic Games have begun, and you can walk the streets of Dagsion right now.

The shape of the game is exactly what you hoped it would be after the overview footage. You still command units across a battle map in turn-based fights where one careless push can cost you a unit for good. Between fights, you still slip back into Dagsion to recruit allies, drill at the training ground, and deepen the bonds between your four Heroes, as Nintendo of America shows in the new clip. Venture past the city walls and there are quests, resources, and roaming enemies waiting to test whatever plan you cooked up over tea and a save file.

Here are the small good things this trailer confirms, and the one that isn't so small:

  • The city of Dagsion is a real hub, not a menu screen, with training grounds and bonds to build between battles.
  • Four named Heroes lead the story, which finally gives the marketing something to follow besides a map.
  • Combat still leans on strategic, turn-based positioning rather than reflexes, so a slower afternoon serves you fine.
  • It runs on exactly one piece of hardware, so the price of admission includes a console you may not own yet.

That last one is Nintendo's oldest trick dressed in a new city's clothes: sell you the love, then sell you the box it lives in.
