Halo Director Promoted, Then Fired by Xbox a Day Later
A cinematic director at Halo Studios got a promotion this week. Xbox laid them off less than 24 hours later.

A cinematic director at Halo Studios got bumped up this week. Xbox showed them the door the very next day, according to Insider Gaming.
Think about that timeline for a second. Someone sat through a promotion conversation, maybe told their family, maybe updated a title on LinkedIn, and then got a layoff notice before the ink dried. That is not a hard call made under pressure. That is a company that did not know its own left hand from its right, or worse, knew exactly what it was doing and did it anyway.
This is not happening in a vacuum. Xbox just handed Halo's future over to Activision and cut studios loose in the process, a move this site already covered in Xbox's Reset Hands Halo to Activision, Cuts Studios, part of the same shakeup detailed in Halo Goes to Activision. A promotion landing in the middle of that mess and getting reversed by a pink slip within a day is not a coincidence. It is what a restructuring looks like from the inside: paperwork moving faster than anyone can act on it, and a person's actual job caught in the gears.
Xbox will call this efficiency, or realignment, or whatever word the memo uses this quarter. None of those words explain why anyone gets promoted the day before they get cut. That is not streamlining a studio. That is a company that cannot coordinate its own HR department, working on the franchise it keeps insisting it still cares about.
I have stopped expecting Xbox to explain these decisions well, because it never does. What I still expect is for a promotion to mean something for more than 24 hours. Every studio Xbox touches right now gets treated like a line item, and the people making the games are the ones absorbing it. Earn back some trust by treating your own people like they matter past the next quarterly slide, and maybe I will believe the next promotion actually sticks.
