007 First Light's Free DLC Finally Lets You Drive the Valhalla

IO Interactive dropped a free update for 007 First Light that fixes the one thing the campaign fumbled: letting Bond actually drive his Aston Martin.

By Josh Brandt

IO Interactive just gave 007 First Light the thing it should have shipped with: a reason to actually drive the car it kept dangling in front of you. The free Extended Operations update landed on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, and the headline addition is a mission called Valhalla Protocol, which finally lets you take Bond's Aston Martin Valhalla out onto an actual road instead of parking it on a pedestal in Q-Lab for forty hours.

As GameSpot lays out, the mission sends you racing through Slovakia across four track variants, and when driving well isn't cutting it, the car comes armed with guns and missile launchers to settle the argument. PC Gamer is blunter about why this matters: the campaign spent the whole game teasing the Valhalla only to hand you a brief turret sequence instead of a driver's seat. Getting the car moving after the fact isn't a fix so much as an apology, but I'll take it over nothing.

What else is in the box

The update isn't just the one car chase. According to Eurogamer and the trailer IO put out through PlayStation, Extended Operations also brings:

  • A new TacSim mission, Jungle Heist, that reworks the game's hotel sequence into a randomized job hunting for safe codes in a jungle villa.
  • A photo mode with custom poses and lighting setups, because every game needs one eventually.
  • New Game Plus, letting you replay the campaign in different outfits.
  • A punishing 00 difficulty mode for anyone who thinks they've earned the number.
  • Two new weapons, the Squire Marksman rifle and Storm 12 shotgun, plus three new outfits.

None of this rewrites the campaign. It's bolted on, and it plays like it. But a studio going back to patch in the feature everyone actually wanted, for free, is the kind of thing that should happen more than it does.

The sequel question nobody's answering yet

007 First Light reportedly moved 4 million units by August, which is a real number for a game that launched without Switch 2 support attached. That version is still delayed, now pushed to March 2027, which I already covered when IO first pushed it back.

Amazon Games leadership has floated a sequel as a matter of when, not if, but whether IO Interactive itself gets to build it is still an open question, not a confirmed plan. Until there's a contract, a trailer, or a release date with IO's name actually on it, that's a hope dressed up as a headline. The driving mission is real and it's good that it's here. The sequel talk is still just talk, and I've learned not to pre-order a promise.
